"I get most of your big news from Hilde. I was surprised, I guess, that the two of you never, well…"
He blew out a breath, pulled the heavy bulk of his hair from where it was looped uncomfortably under one shoulder. He stared up at the Earth, the stars, the moon, blurred and unfocused through the frames of the colony edge, like looking through slightly warped glass.
"I mean," he said finally, "does anyone really end up dating the person they have a crush on at 14? That might be a little weird, right? Like, when we were kids, first of all, I kinda had crushes on all of you, so that widens the field a lot. But isn't it more like… when you're a kid you just really like people. You aren't looking for a soulmate or a lover or a partner or whatever. You find people you jive with and who you want to spend time with. And if you're super lucky, like we were, you get to have all these cool friends to grow up with."
He looked over and found her smiling at him, and thought that maybe, maybe there was one crush that he hadn't quite gotten over yet.

A decade after EW, Relena and Duo reconnect and bond over insomnia, irresponsibility, insecurity, and late night movies. In which Relena can't sleep, Duo can't deal with being an adult, Hilde can't stop rolling her eyes, Heero is the worst wingman ever but no one can stop texting him, and Trowa definitely can't identify edible plants.
My notes: This is the fic that sold me on this pairing. I love it so much. All of the characters feel like real people, with multiple dimensions. The only thing I find hard to believe is that anyone could be scared by the House on Haunted Hill (I mean, I love that movie and Vincent Price, but it's cheesy as fuck).
